Under the City’s Tenant Buy Out Notification and Disclosure Program (commonly known as “Cash for Keys”), landlords may offer tenants financial compensation in exchange for voluntarily moving out of their rental unit. This program is only for units covered under the City’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO). Landlords must provide tenants with a copy of the RSO Disclosure Notice and file a copy with the City of Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) for it to be a valid agreement.
